Day 1: Thingvellir National Park
ITALY / REYKJAVIK / VELLIR (-/-/D)
Ride with us to discover Reykjanes, Reykjavík, Snæfellsnes and Krýsuvík. Exploring Iceland on horseback is a must for equestrian tourism lovers… a tour that offers breathtaking views of a land that will stay in your eyes and heart for a long time.
We will begin our adventure in Vellir, following one of the country’s main rivers, the Ölfusá, formed by the confluence of the Hvítá and Sog rivers just north of Selfoss. The river runs 25 km before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean.
We’ll then ride on to the iconic Strandarkirkja Church, a small Lutheran parish church in Selvogur, rising from the southern coast with its tower pointing skyward—a beacon for sea travelers. From here we continue along the beach to Krýsuvík and its thermal waters, a landscape of striking contrast between black lava and pale sand.
Finally, we visit the stunning Blue Lagoon, where we can relax in its naturally heated geothermal waters—one of Iceland’s most visited attractions, located on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Transfer from Keflavik Airport (KEF) to Reykjavík's BSI Bus Terminal must be arranged independently (via Flybus service). Meet your guides at 5:30 PM at the bus station. Transfer to the Eldhestar Guesthouse in Vellir. Dinner with the guides and overnight stay.
Day 2: Thingvellir National Park
VELLIR (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we’ll get to know the horses. In the afternoon, we saddle up for about 17 km (approx. 5 hours riding) through green meadows and the Ölfusforir bird sanctuary. We’ll ride through the wetlands at the delta of the Ölfusá River, and then return to the farm. Dinner and overnight at the guesthouse.
Day 3:
VELLIR / STRANDARKIRKJA / ISÓLFSSKÁLI (B/L/D)
After breakfast, horses and riders are transferred by vehicle to Strandarkirkja Church, right on the coast—our starting point for today’s trek (approx. 8 hours in the saddle).
We’ll ride along the beach, then head inland through black lava mountains, passing Lake Kleifarvatn and reaching Krýsuvík with its bubbling hot springs. Here we leave the horses and transfer by vehicle to Isólfsskáli, where we’ll spend this night and the next in a cozy beachfront guesthouse.
In the evening, we visit the famous Blue Lagoon, just 20 minutes away by car.
Day 4:
ISÓLFSSKÁLI (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we return by vehicle to Krýsuvík where the horses await. We visit the colorful geothermal area of Seltún, then ascend Mount Sveifluháls and descend the far side toward Vigdisarvellir—an oasis of green surrounded by lava mountains. From here, we continue riding back to Isólfsskáli. Dinner and overnight at the guesthouse.
Day 5:
ISÓLFSSKÁLI / REYKJAVIK / ITALY (B/L/-)
Our final riding day takes us from the coast back into the mountainous interior, alternating lush vegetation and black lava fields.
Stunning views of the glaciers of southern Iceland accompany us as we stop for lunch at Krýsuvíkurberg, surrounded by seabirds.
We return to Krýsuvík, where we say farewell to the horses and take the bus back to Reykjavík. From there, independent transfer to the airport.
Plan for an evening flight or consider extending your stay to visit the capital.
